Redesign And UX Audit Of The IPL's IOS And Android Apps

Whilst at Pulselive I was tasked with a redesign of the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) native apps, both iOS and Android. The main goals of this project were to incorporate their new brand with an updated UI and also improve overall user experience.

The Challenge

A UX audit and user testing was proposed to pinpoint the issues and poor UX in the current app. The UX audit brought up a few key issues to address -

  • Content and page structure was conusung and unituitive for users.
  • Over complicated menu, with too many menu items.
  • The app landing screen did not display what the majority of users were looking for.

As design lead on this project I was tasked to assist in the UX audit and to outline the key problems from this research, taking these findings and transforming them into design solutions to solve these problems.

My Approach

I did this by -

  • Collaborating in a UX audit and user research stages alongside user researchers.
  • Designing on a new IA to simplify the app structure and menu layout.
  • Designing user flows and wireframes to address app structure issues and layout of landing pages.
  • Designing final visuals to incorporate the new visual style and brand, and to improve UI issues such as the overcomplicated mobile menu.

The Results

All the key issues from the UX audit were improved and testing to confirm this will be started once the app is launched. Visually the new brand was added and an updated and more modern UI was brought in.

*New app will not be launched until 2021 due to IPL suspending the 2020 season due to the COVID19 outbreak.
